Mr Agwunobi qualified as a doctor over twenty five years ago and has been a Consultant Surgeon, specialising in gastrointestinal (GI) and laparoscopic surgery, for the last twelve years.

He was the lead Upper GI Surgeon for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for seven years, where he led the development of advanced keyhole surgery for treating complex oesophageal and stomach cancer.

Over 90% of the procedures Mr Agwunobi carries out involve laparoscopic (or keyhole) surgery. This is far less invasive for the patient than traditional open surgery and leads to quicker recovery times and minimal scarring.

Mr Agwunobi’s clinical practice is based at BMI The Alexandra Hospital, in Cheadle; Spire Regency Hospital, in Macclesfield; Spire Cheshire Hospital, in Warrington; 52 Alderley Road Clinic, in Wilmslow and Spire Manchester Hospital. He receives referrals from local GPs, other consultant colleagues and self-referrals from patients. He also treats NHS patients through the Choose and Book pathway.

Mr Agwunobi is actively involved in clinical research and educational events for other healthcare professionals and the general public. He has presented at national and international meetings and published many articles in peer review journals. He is also Co-Director of Manchester Hernia Clinic.

Away from work Mr Agwunobi is married with two teenage boys, who keep him busy and grounded. He supports numerous local charity events as well as Water Aid, which provides clean and safe drinking water to people in the developing world. In his spare time he enjoys following Manchester United and a game of golf with friends, even though he tends to approach the holes via the scenic route!
